ABIDE resources for 26-27 November

Allow yourself time for this moment with God

Make it special. Will you make a cup of tea? Do you want to sit in a special place? Will you light a candle? Take five deep breaths. Check-in with how you are feeling – in body, in mind, in spirit. Take five more deep breaths and ask God to abide with you in this moment.

Bible reading for today

Genesis 1:1-5

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

Imagine this

Make some time over these next few days really to gaze at the night sky. Through a window or out in the open, just take time to look and wonder. Become aware of your smallness, and rejoice in it!

This is my favourite video about the scale of the universe and beyond. The science leads me to worship EVERY time.

Do a second Bible reading

Psalm 8 in the King James version

Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings
hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies,
that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers,
the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
what is man, that thou art mindful of him?
and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels,
and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands;
thou hast put all things under his feet:
all sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
the fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea,
and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

Enjoy a chat with God

Talk with God about an idea or phrase that stood out for you from the two Bible readings. Take time to savour the Lord’s Prayer with him.
