ABIDE resources for 24-25 November

Allow yourself time for this moment with God

Make it special. Will you make a cup of tea? Do you want to sit in a special place? Will you light a candle? Take five deep breaths. Check-in with how you are feeling – in body, in mind, in spirit. Take five more deep breaths and ask God to abide with you in this moment.

Bible reading for today

verses from Psalm 136 – try scrolling through as slowly as you can today!

O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,

   for his steadfast love endures for ever.

O give thanks to the God of gods,

   for his steadfast love endures for ever.

O give thanks to the Lord of lords,

   for his steadfast love endures for ever;

who alone does great wonders,

   for his steadfast love endures for ever;

who by understanding made the heavens,

   for his steadfast love endures for ever;

who spread out the earth on the waters,

   for his steadfast love endures for ever;

who made the great lights,

   for his steadfast love endures for ever;

the sun to rule over the day,

   for his steadfast love endures for ever;

the moon and stars to rule over the night,

   for his steadfast love endures for ever.

It is he who remembered us
in our low estate,

   for his steadfast love endures for ever;

and rescued us from our foes,

   for his steadfast love endures for ever;

who gives food to all flesh,

   for his steadfast love endures for ever.

O give thanks to the God of heaven,

   for his steadfast love endures for ever.

Imagine this

Make a (mental) note of something significant that happened in

  • the last hour
  • the last day
  • the last week
  • the last month
  • and in the last year.

For each of these episodes, how might you be able to say, “His steadfast love endures for ever”?

If you write out a list of other things too and add the same refrain, it is as if you are writing the Psalm of your Story.

Do the Bible reading again

Take some time to read the Bible passage again slowly (and out loud if you can). Maybe look up the whole Psalm in your own Bible, or in a completely different translation.

Enjoy a chat with God

Talk with God about your day. Take time to savour the Lord’s Prayer with him.
